DOUGHNUTS? It's about so much more than doughnuts y'all. It's about GROWTH! For those of y'all interested to know why, we're Ryland & JP & WE are pumped to share the short(ish) story of Scout's Doughnuts!

We launched straight into corporate careers after college and quickly learned two things:

1) that our vocations should be a purposeful and meaningful part of our lives, and

2) that JP and I want to do as much life together as possible with each other and our kids.

Fast forward eight years and we were still trying to figure out what this meant! For several years we had known that we wanted to shape a business for ourselves, and given the opportunity to do that we wanted our future business to meet certain criteria:

1

Be something our whole family could participate in.

2

Cultivate growth in the lives of our team and communities, and the life of our city.

3

Foster relationships. (Because we're not meant to grow alone! Life truly is SWEETER TOGETHER!)

"Ok, ok, ok. I get all the intentionality, but how did you land on doughnuts?"

@youwiththegreatquestion, I (Ryland) have been running with the same group of guys for many years and one of the guys routinely complained about there not being any good local doughnuts in Greenville. Probably the 10th time this came up on a run I shared it with JP and we just couldn't shake the idea. After a year of market research, recipe testing and technique building we brought our first box of cronuts ever to Bridge City Coffee in February 2022!

@everyoneelseoutthere

We can't wait to share a doughnut with y'all! Life truly is SWEETER TOGETHER!

p.s. for the real hardcore who are still reading...

Why "Scout's"? - JP and I have always loved the narrative of To Kill a Mockingbird and the character of Jean Louise ("Scout") in particular. Her innocence and grace to ignore social prejudices or expectations in order to see people for who they were, as people, with stories, has always appealed to us. We hope that our business can also be a space where all are welcomed and seen for who they are.

What should we call these things? - We actually love the simple term doughnut! We want these to simultaneously bring a lot of nostalgia and blow your mind!
